History
A tradition since 1967 - the Cavaliers represent Western in baseball, Esports, men's basketball, volleyball, women's basketball. Western has had a proud tradition of athletics that has allowed former and current student-athletes to have the Essential Experience. Our history is filled with student-athletes and teams who have been successful.
In 2025, Western Athletics its expansion its offering to include sanctioned Club Sports. The addition of Club Sports will add on to its existing Recreational opportunities that include Varsity Athletics, Intramurals, and Extramurals. Club Sports are Student-Initiated and Student-Led that allows for expanded flexible athletic offerings that meet the needs and desires of Western students. As Club Sport teams are developed and grown, they increase the likelihood of expansion into an official varsity athletic sport to go along with our existing varsity sport offerings.
In 2024, Western Athletics announced the suspension of their Men's and Women's Baksetball programs in an attempt to realign sport offerings with the needs and interests of the Western student population. Starting in the Fall of 2024, Western Athletics will offer a variety of sport offerings including Baseball, Esports, Clay Target, Powerlifting, and Volleyball.
2019-2020 Women's Basketball National Championship
In 2019-2020 Western Technical College's Women's Basketball team won the Division III NJCAA National Championship. The team capped off a 25-6 season by defeating Northland Community and Technical College 69-60 claiming the school's first National Championship. Following a fourth-place finish the year before, Western was able to finish it all being named National Champions!
